The Stone Cold Pharaohs *Self-Directed Team* 2009/2010

Warren Bates

Picture
Warren Bates has been involved in improv for a decade, both performing in and working for the Canadian Improv Games. He is a two time national competitor, and one time national champion. He has been performing with local improv groups in Regina, Saskatchewan for the last couple of years, most notably Combat Improv and Mix Improv. He has also been writing and performing stand-up comedy for the past few years. He has recently moved to Vancouver to finish school and to contribute what he can to the impressive comedy and improv scene that the city has to offer. He is overjoyed to be with UBC improv this year.

Andrew Christoffel

Picture
From the prairies to the mountains, Andrew has been improvising for more than one quarter of his life. As a second year student at UBC, Andrew has yet to decide what he wants to do with his life, so rather than focusing on future ambitions, he has decided to focus on something much more life-threatening: ridding the world of unhappiness. He continues to do so, primarily through participation in his second year of UBCi. Without improv, Andrew would likely still be wearing oversized New Money bunnyhugs and be eating meat. Thank God he is not.

Andrew is Co-President of UBC Improv.

Nick Harvey-Cheetham

Picture
Nick got his start improvising in the Canadian Improv Games and was hooked from there. He has been building bridges and kissing babies with UBC Improv for three years now. Additionally, he performs with the rare but spectacular two-man improv group NIX and is a founding member of Pump Trolley Comedy, a Vancouver-based comedy collective/weekly show. Nick has had the pleasure of learning from many of his improv heros, including: Dave Morris, Kevin Gillese, CRUMBS, Armonodo Diaz and Christian Capozzoli. Nick has performed improv in over 11 different types of building, including a library.

Nick is the Webmaster and Vice President of Business Development for UBC Improv.

Rachel Smith

Bio coming soon.

Rachel is Co-Vice President of Promotions for UBC Improv.

Mirah Valdes

Picture
Hailing from suburban North Vancouver, Mirah relies on the bus for transportation. She got her start doing improv in the Canadian Improv Games with her high school team and since then, has been having fun onstage with UBC for 3 years. In her spare time, she enjoys console-based RPGS. cosplaying, and cephalopods. Her haircut is pretty androgynous.

Mirah is Co-Vice President of Promotions for UBC Improv.

Shauna Wootton

Picture
Shauna has been doing improv since, parched with thirst for creative expression in a desert of first-year academics, she stumbled upon a UBC Improv poster and decided to audition. However, that thirst, instead of being quenched, only grew steadily in intensity over the subsequent four years, until now she literally cannot stop for fear of death. Shauna has trained with the likes of Owen Chan, Alistair Cook, Dave Morris, Steve Sim, Lee White, Kaitlin Fontana and Taz VanRassel, among others. In her secret life as an aspiring writer, Shauna is working on a novel for young adults. It is about lesbians.

Shauna is Co-President of UBC Improv

Brandon Yan

Picture
Brandon is a 4th year History major with a penchant for being silly. In 2008, without any prior improv experience, Brandon joined UBCi and found it to be one of the best decisions of his life - aside from not taking candy from stranger. SInce then, he has performed i the VTSL stage on Granville Island, both with UBCi and as half of the improv power-duo WOO!YA! with the lovely Shauna Wootton. He has received sage advice from the likes of Kaitlin Fontana, Alistair Cook, Dave Morris, Taz Van Rassel and Steve Sim. Brandon is a nerd and enjoys SimCity, Star Trek, BSG and Harry Belafonte. Kaplah!

Brandon is the Photographer and Secretary for UBC Improv.

Holy Moses! *Directed Team* 2009/2010

Nir Av-Gay

Picture
In Hebrew, 'Nir' translates to 'field of trimmed grass'. Nir has a hard time finding any meaningful significance in this fact. Nir enjoys pretty indie music and feel-good television shows. He plays music and draws cartoons. Nir has recently been diagnosed with a rare case of extreme laziness.

Michael Demaria

Picture
Michael DeMaria is a fine Californian import, like television and sunshine. He hails from San Jose which is 2005's Safest Big City in America. It is also the 10th Largest City in the United States. He, amongst his other interests, likes to look things up on Wikipedia. UBC Improv is his first experience with organized improvisational theater. He is one of only two members of the junior team that was born in the 80s. Think about that for a second. I'll wait. Good.

Georgia Beaty

Picture
As a young girl, Georgia was well known for improvising a "Super Save-On-Foods" superhero costume from a grocery bag while singing the jingle as her theme song. She is very excited to be taking the next step in her improv endeavors with UBCi. A first year student at UBC, Georgia brings with her many years of theater, voice and performance experience. She also brings another head of fiery locks to the group, which can only be a good thing.

Jeremy Fitzgerald

Picture
Jeremy Fitzgerald is a third year at UBC currently studying political science. To date his experience in theater has been a little of this and a little of that and a whole lot of fun and he is excited to be joining UBCi for the first time.

Stefana Fratila

Picture
Stefana Fratila has been improvising since she was persuaded to do so by Andrew Chen's "Free Ponies" poster. In the most recent Canadian Improv Games, her team made it to Nationals! It was there that she acquired 100 grams of 'Kama Sutra Tea'. Otherwise, Stefana writes music, plays, and films that make everyone somewhat...uncomfortable.

Jordan Moore

Picture
Jordan hails from Kingsville Ontario, Canada's most southern town. He is currently in his second year at UBC. He did some performance in high school, although UBCi is his first experience with improv. Jordan looks forward to reaching new levels of enlightenment with UBCi. Jordan enjoys long walks on the beach, sharing ice cream sundaes and cats. If you think Jordan is attractive, you can find him on eHarmony.com, screen name kittystyle01. Send him an ice breaker. Seriously.

Chloe Paul

Picture
UBCi's Australian import and resident science geek, Chloe has been involved in performing comedy as an actor, dancer, singer, writer, tech crew member, editor, stage manager and director. However her favorite forms of comedic expression are parody songs and improv. She is a biochemistry major, loves purple and has an ever growing collection of nerdy T-shirts. When not on exchange to Canada she can be found deep in the cult of The Sydney University Science Revue, and annual sketch comedy show that combines science, theater, and hilarity.

Nolan Sage

Picture
Born on the best day of the week, Nolan came into the world as a baby; he has been doing improv from the time he could talk. Three years later, he's keeping at it, furthering his training because we all know that 151 Pokemon are still out there. He likes dogs, pineapple, pictures of dogs with pineapples and UBCi/mexican food. It keeps him pleasant.

Tess Walker

Picture
Tess Walker hails from small town Ontario, but is slowly learning to best the foolish Kits recycling schedule. Really, it sucks. She is a second year student in psychology, so she'll probably analyze everything you say. She's new to UBCi this year, but is the most ready for excessive witty banter and on-stage antics!

Jessica Wallin

Picture
Bio coming soon.

Coach: Jessica Bryson

Picture
Jessica Bryson has a degree in Theater and a Masters in silly. She is a UBCi Alum and this year's Jr. Team coach. She is currently a mainstage player in Vancouver Theater Sports League, a collective member of the weekly comedy show "Pump Trolley" AND she can eat a whole jar of pickles in an hour. Jessica's life wouldn't be remotely the same if she had never auditioned for UBC improv.
